Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS)
If you suffered an injury, illness or death caused by service on or after 6 April 2005, you may be entitled to a lump sum payment and/or a Guaranteed Income Payment (GIP) for life. There is a seven-year time limit from the date of knowledge of the injury.

War Pension Scheme
If your injury or illness was caused by service before 6 April 2005, the War Pension Scheme may apply. It provides weekly payments and associated benefits including mobility supplement and clothing allowance.

Universal Credit and benefits
Veterans are entitled to all mainstream benefits. When claiming Universal Credit, declare your veteran status β this may affect how your savings and compensation payments are treated. AFCS lump sums are disregarded for means-tested benefits for a period.

Council Tax reduction
Veterans in receipt of certain disability benefits may qualify for council tax reductions. Severely disabled veterans may be eligible for full exemption.

Veterans Railcard
Veterans of the UK Armed Forces are entitled to a Veterans Railcard giving 1/3 off most rail fares for themselves and up to 4 adults travelling with them.
